A friend asked me the question in an email a while back. It seems like a good thing to address.
When I do distance Reiki, I don’t usually use the props like a teddy bear or a picture. Distance Reiki is done by sending Reiki in meditation. I generally do Hatsurei Ho and make my intention to send Reiki. I feel the Reiki as an energy flow coming through me and leaving toward the recipient. It’s different than prayer, which I see as a speaking to God, more a conversation than an action. At the same time, both Reiki and prayer are ways to and from the Omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscience we label God.
One of the joys of Reiki is it’s many facets, it’s many expressions in different people. How does distance Reiki differ from prayer to you?

Gyoshi ho - treating with the eyes is a useful Level II technique for when you can’t do hands-on treatments.
Reiki Blogger explains the technique in a fine way:
“Giving Reiki with your eyes is fairly straight forward. Let’s start by saying that.
But, you need to be able to have the same confidence the energy will flow, as you do when you put your hands of someone. So, it is advisable to start with hands on Reiki healing, then experiment with giving Reiki with your eyes.
The key to giving reiki with your eyes is to relax your focus and let the object come to you. Easier said than done, take it from me.
And, this is where reiki training really starts to be training in energy awareness. Because as you start to do this you will start to see that normally your energy goes out from you, like reaching out into the world.
You want to keep your personal ki, in your hara, and not go out to the objects. You want them to come to you.
If you can manage this. You are doing pretty well. Let me just say that.
But, with a little perseverance and effort there is not anyone that would not be able to master this.
By keeping your energy centered and by letting the light of the objects come to you, you will allow the Reiki, which is naturally wanting to go out (for want of a better way of putting it.. because Reiki is technically not out there, not in here, not both, not neither.. now doesn’t that just bake your noodle a little!).. like the saying about God just waiting for you to open the door.. you just need to knock.”

Many Reiki practitioners are taught about, and seek out reiki Spirit Guides. This search for spirit guides causes some consternation among many Christians.
I didn’t think a lot of the idea as I was initially learning reiki. (Will one ever complete learning)? This isn’t something that was taught in Japan or from Mrs. Takata who brought Reiki to the West.
These guides help one understand how to apply reiki most effectively. As Catholics, though, this shouldn’t be a foreign practice. We pray to Jesus, the Son of God, we implore the intercession of Mary, His mother and the angels and saints in our most sacred liturgies.
Maybe, the concept of spirit guides been developed for those who have no religious background that has support for individuals in higher realms?

The word reiki is used in several different manners. Here’s how I’ll use it.
Reiki ( with a capital R) pertains to the universal spiritual energy that Mikao Usui called “My Method”
reiki (with a small r) has to do with the system of bioenergy fields is a metaphysical context.
Everyone seems to add their own ideas to what is reiki. I’m using this category to place posts and comments that are additions to the basic reiki practices.

Welcome to the Blog of Catholic Reiki. This is the first post. Consequently, I am experimenting away.
This is extremely easy software to use. I’ve installed it and am using it without reading any documentation. I must say, it’s easier to use than Goggle’s Blogger. I must give credit to GoDaddy, my web host for the easy installation. You’ll see alot of links back to Wordpress, especially in the Blogroll. That’ll probably change over time but right now, I’m leaving well enough alone until I figure things out as I go.
A blog is nothing more than an expensive diary without feedback. So gimme some ;>
